Ndutu Safari Lodge

This lodge offers quite basic stone built accommodation in the heart of the Serengeti Plains. While it advertises and prices itself as luxury, travellers to such a remote region should moderate their expectations somewhat. During the migrations the location is excellent, but at certain times of year it is not a great choice for proximity to wildlife.

Accommodation at Ndutu Safari Lodge

The lodge comprises of 34 separate cottages. Ten double rooms, five triples and one family room which can accommodate up to 2 adults and 2 children. All other rooms are twin. All the cottages are ground-floor and wheel chair accessible. All boast private verandas Rooms are a good size, comfortable and clean. There are no power-sockets provided in the rooms for charging cameras/laptops etc and this must be done in the lodgeโ€™s main communal areas.Rooms are en suite. However, water for showering is rather unusual. Heated by solar power, it is not always hot. It is also laced with rather large amounts of soda. This means it can feel strange on the skin. Some people enjoy this cleansing sensation.[/tab] [tab]

Food and Drink at Ndutu Safari Lodge

Food at the lodge is pleasant and fresh but there is a very narrow choice and portions are not large. You should inform the lodge of any dietary requirements as meals run to a set menu but vegetarian/ special options can be provided if the hotel is notified. Breakfast options are standard; continental with some cooked options, lunch is three-course and dinner is four-course. ย The lodge offers a fair choice of alcoholic and soft drinks at reasonable prices.[/tab] [tab]

Service at Ndutu Safari Lodge

Staff at the lodge are both obliging and friendly. Service is professional but refreshingly informal and the lodge enjoys a tranquil atmosphere being based, as it is, right in the heart of the plains. As the lodge is unfenced it can feel exposed, but guides and guards are on the lookout for animals at all times and lead guests to and from their cottages. The hotel offers Internet access (15 minutes for free and a subsequent charge) but this is limited and the connection is often less than brilliant. The hotel offers a laundry service and gift shop.[/tab] [tab]

Things to do at Ndutu Safari Lodge

The lodge is well located for viewing wildlife during the rainy season. Around a million wildebeest migrate through the region between December and May. The area has some exotic bird life also. Walking tours can be arranged with the local ranger for around $20 per group and guests can also visit the local Olduvai Visitor Centre which is an hourโ€™s drive through the gorge. The hotel has a pleasant lounge and sets up a campfire nightly around which guests are invited to converge. The relaxed atmosphere at the lodge and its unusual location make it a good place for meeting and talking to other travellers.[/tab] [/tabcontent] [/tabs]
